USE YOUR LICENSE TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY

On Sunday September 22, 2019 it will be time for Michiana Amateur Radio Club members to come out and serve the community. We will be providing communications for the 7th Annual Riverview YMCA 3 for 3 Triathlon.

Our group of volunteers will be providing communications and safety over the bike and running portions of the triathlon and the YMCA waterfront and pool staff will provide safety during the swimming/kayaking portion of the triathlon. Adult entrants will have the option of swimming or kayaking the initial portion of the triathlon. Adults will swim 200 yards or kayak ½ mile, bicycle 8 miles and run 2 ½ miles. The men’s run this year will change somewhat because of the construction in and around Howard Park. Youth will swim 50 yards, bicycle 3 miles and run ½ mile. The triathlon course runs along the St. Joseph river between Howard Park in South Bend and Logan Street in Mishawaka. The triathlon for adults starts promptly at 8:30 am and the youth portion will follow approximately one hour later. We will have a pre-event net approximately 8:15 am using the 147.390 repeater in South Bend. Our group will have a pre-triathlon meeting to go over last minute information and we will deploy to our positions for the event. We should be done by 11:00 am and on our way.

Volunteers will be needed. MARC member Bob Irish W9RCI is the YMCA 3 for 3 Triathlon Race Coordinator and is now taking names of persons wishing to volunteer for this event. You may contact Bob directly by phone 574-250-7030 or by email robtcirish@sbcglobal.net

Volunteers will need to bring a 2m HT in good working condition, preferably with a gain antenna. HT’s will need to have the 147.390 repeater programmed along with simplex channels just in case. Have batteries fully charged and a backup if you have it.

If you intend to help with this event, get it on your calendar and contact Bob ASAP.
